More choice makes voting easier in Hamilton’s 2026 municipal election

Cast your ballot at any voting location in your ward, at a time and place that works for you

HAMILTON, ON – Hamilton voters will have more flexibility to choose when and where they cast their ballot in the 2026 municipal election. Voters can now choose any voting location in their ward, making it easier to find a time and location that works for them.

Your vote matters. Our Mayor and City Councillors make decisions every day that shape the services and issues that matter most to residents, from transportation and housing to recreation, libraries, parks and roads. By voting in the municipal election, you help influence these decisions and ensure your voice is part of shaping the future of our community.

Voter information cards are now being delivered to households across Hamilton. The cards look different this year because voting locations are no longer assigned to individual voters. The card provides information about your ward and the voting options available to you.

You do not need your voter information card to vote. When you go to a voting location, you will not be asked to present the card. You only need to bring one piece of identification that shows your name and qualifying address.

What voters need to do

Watch for your voter information card in the mail and keep it for reference. Before you vote, check the City’s Where to Vote webpage to find a voting location and date that works for you.

Voting options

• Election Day: October 26, 2026. Voters can cast their ballot at any voting location in their ward.
• Advance polls: October 3, 4, 10, 11, 17 and 18.
• Ballot on Demand at City Hall: A special advance poll open to eligible voters from all wards will be available at Hamilton City Hall October 13-16 and 19-23.
• Ballot on Demand at Lime Ridge Mall: A special advance poll open to eligible voters from all wards will be available September 28.
  Voters can choose any voting location in their ward or a Ballot on Demand location. A full list of voting locations and dates is available on the City of Hamilton website.

You might be eligible to vote if you:

• Reside in the local municipality or are the owner or tenant of land here, or the spouse of an owner or tenant AND
• Are a Canadian citizen AND
• Are at least 18 years old
